Phased tenant improvements for the San Mateo County Historical Association which converted the Old County Courthouse building in downtown Redwood City into the San Mateo County History Museum.
In earlier phases G&S performed extensive interior improvements throughout the historic building including a new elevator, plumbing, fire sprinklers, HVAC, electrical and complete architectural finishes and ADA upgrades. Also, historic stained glass restoration and structural steel seismic upgrades were made to the 116 foot signature dome, which had sustained moderate damage in the Loma Prieta earthquake.
Later phases included demolition and abatement, and new electrical, mechanical and fire protection systems for seven new exhibit galleries, as well as a new basement level Wells Fargo Learning Center for the museum's education program.
* The San Mateo County Courthouse was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. Sensitivity, proper handling and complete protection to all historic finishes and features were maintained by Gonsalves & Stronck throughout all phases of construction.
